South Sea Records to Launch in Cape Town

Durban based independent record label South Sea Records will soon expand it's presence into the Cape.  Co-founder of South Sea, Wren Hinds (who is also a founding member of the SAMA nominated group The Hinds Brothers) will be heading to Cape Town in February 2015 to set up a South Sea Records branch and distribution in the mother city.

Founded by Hinds Brothers in late 2013 primarily as a means to independently release their highly acclaimed debut album 'Ocean of Milk', South Sea Records soon began to embody the wider musical vision of the brothers Hinds, Aden & Wren.

'Volume 1'- the debut EP by Faye & Wren was released in early 2014 exclusively on South Sea Records and in September 2014 South Sea brought internationally acclaimed folk hero Willy Mason to Durban for 2 concerts with The Hinds Brothers.

November 2014 saw the label announce that they had been busy setting up a distribution network unlike any other, focused around trendy Durban coffee shops and tea joints where you can find the distinctive South Sea Records branded bamboo stands. Burnt into the stands is the simple phrase- “Discover New Music”.

Artists currently being distributed by South Sea include Guy Buttery, Madala Kunene, David Jenkins, Faye & Wren and of course The Hinds Brothers.

South Sea Records will now embark on their next adventure, which will see the setting up of a
similar distribution network in Cape Town over February and March 2015, and later this year in Johannesburg.
